The Bookstore Plus is an independent bookstore located on the thriving Main Street of Lake Placid, N.Y.

Our second-generation, family-owned bookstore has been in the Olympic Village for more than 40 years. Nancy Beattie launched the business in 1973, opening a music and art store; four years later she bought an existing book shop, combining the two to form The Bookstore Plus. Today, Nancy’s daughter, Sarah Galvin, owns The Bookstore Plus with her husband, Marc.

We specialize in the best new releases; the largest selection of Adirondack literature anywhere, including guidebooks, local history, art books, fiction and non-fiction; children’s titles, from board books through young adult; and more.

Plus we offer art supplies, notebooks, writing implements and other materials to serve your own creativity. We also provide expert picture framing and regularly hold events, such as Skype author talks, children’s storytime and crafts, book signings and adult coloring nights.

We’ve seen enough small bookstores come and go, in the Adirondacks and elsewhere, to know simply selling books isn’t enough to set us apart. So what do you get here that you can’t get anywhere else?

Each one of us at The Bookstore Plus is a reader. We love to learn what you like, what you don’t, and recommend something so spot-on you want to come back and talk about books some more with us. Think of us as your literary concierge. Every title on our shelves has been hand-picked; you may be picky, but we’re even pickier. And if we don’t have it, we can get it. Often overnight – so even if you’re visiting the High Peaks region on vacation, you can have the book in hand you’re looking for long before you leave.

We’re located at 2491 Main St. and are open seven days a week (except for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas).
